Closet Organization
Happy New Year! I hope y’all enjoyed your holidays & have stayed healthy. There seems to be a lot of pressure with the New Year to get healthy, fit, organized, so many things; feeling overwhelmed yet? I’d like to offer some help. I do like to organize during the month of January. It’s very rewarding because you see results pretty quickly lol & because it’s winter here in Colorado, it’s a great time to get your space organized. I’ll be tackling different areas of your home this month so I hope you find my ideas helpful & less overwhelming: ) Let’s get started with those closets!
Felt Hangers
Felt hangers make a BIG difference in your closet. You can reduce the space your clothes are taking up by 40% by switching from plastic to felt hangers. Now, they can be a bit costly to replace all of them at once, so I found this set of 50. Start with one or two packs & then you can add a pack every couple months. Again, not worth being overwhelmed; )
stylist pro-tip
While you’re changing out those hangers… I’ve been doing this for years & it totally works! Turn all the hangers in your closet backwards. As you wear items, after washing, when you go to hang them back up, hang them up the “right” way. At the end of the year you will see what all you didn’t use! I donate all my clothes that are still hung up backwards at the end of the year (I just donated 2 full bags). You can do this seasonally, however I like doing a full year because then there will have been lots of life events such as weddings, graduations, showers, etc.
Baskets
Do you have a shelf in your closet? Is it high up & seems not very user-friendly? I have a solution. Buy some baskets! There are TONS out there; I love these because they’re lightweight, have a handle, & if you’re feeling crafty, you can tie a label on the handle to remember what you put in there. I store our ski pants, goggles, ski gloves, & socks in ours. Store items that you truly only use seasonally & make that high shelf work for you! It’s valuable real estate in your closet!
clear shelf dividers
I love using these on shelfs that I can reach. You can use them to divide out your sweaters, shorts, jeans, clutches & more. They also help keep those piles from falling over (sweaters are the worst offenders of this lol). These clear dividers are pretty pricey at the organization stores so I found a 4-pack for under $30!
Hat hooks
I LOVE hat hooks, as in why didn’t I buy them sooner?! I have quite a few hats that I forget to wear sometimes because I can’t see them or get to them in my closet. I found these stylish brushed gold ones & they work for all different types of hats too. I have mine hung in my office outside of the closet & have worked them in as part of my decor.
shoe organization
This shoe storage system from Home Depot is a fan fave of mine. I used this system in our last house & bought it again for our new home. It’s reasonably priced & customizable. You can adjust the shelf heights for different shoe styles, you can stack them on top of each other, set the unit on the ground or even mount it to the wall.
